Kill the Porn

Kill it!  We’re serious!  Paul was, too.  He said, “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry (Col. 3:5; NIV). Pornography taps into all that.  And because we aren’t killing it, kicking it permanently out of our lives, it is destroying men (mostly), their marriages, and their families.  It’s big right here where we live.  According to www.familysafemedia.com, Oklahoma City ranks 10th, 3rd, and 7th in the nation regarding the number of internet searches for “porn,” “xxx,” and “sex” respectively.

According to the numbers from safemedia.com, which match other numbers I’ve seen, 90% of kids eight to sixteen years old have been exposed to pornography on the internet. The average age for seeing the first pornographic image is eleven.

But this isn’t an adolescent problem or teenage phase. The largest consumer group of pornography is men between 35 and 49 years old.  It’s not just a problem for unbelievers, either. According to Proven Men (www.1wayout.org), 60% of Christian men have sought out some form of pornography. Ninety percent of men raised in Christian homes were introduced to some form of pornography before adulthood. Too many screens are positioned so that they can’t be seen from a hallway or another room because too many men are letting the evil desires entice them way too long?  Do you keep your home computer screen where it can always be seen from a hallway or another room?  What about at work? Seventy percent internet porn is viewed during business hours.

The attraction to pornography does not stay small, if it even begins that way. What a man views today that excites him, will not have the same effect after consistent exposure. The need for longer hours of smut viewing; and the need for more explicit, more hardcore images, grows. Men will waste hours; yes, hours that should have been spent working or with wives or their children, to see pixels that portray nudity.

Men will sell their souls to see videos of ungodly people dishonoring the sexual union that God designed to be honored, not exploited. Some prison ministries report that 100% of sex offenders frequently viewed pornography. I’ll guarantee you that nearly every man convicted of molestation could point out sometime in his own past when he heard about a sexual assault perpetrated by another and said, “I’ll never do that.” I’ll guarantee you, further, that nearly 100% of those who end up as sex offenders are led to the point where they would “do that” by pornography.

Stop it! Kill it now! Pornography will kill your soul and the innocent victims along the way will be your spouse and your children.  Husbands, do whatever you have to do to quit watching it!  Completely quit!  Wives, stand with your husbands while they fight this battle, but do not stand for pornography continuing to be part of his visual intake.

This message could not be shouted louder or more frequently. As a husband for whom the temptation of pornography is an ever present companion the only way out of this is to be open and honest about your addiction. I have confessed to my wife and to my brothers and sisters in Christ. To the wives out there, when your husband comes forward with his problem,as hard as it might be please don’t shut him out! The only reason I have been able to get as far as I have is because my wife has supported me in struggle to rid my life of this horrible thing. When she could have easily and justifiably turned me away, she instead embraced me and let me know that she would stand by me and help me. This has given me strength that I otherwise would never have had.
